A comfortable pair of "broke-in" hiking shoes will be an asset for exploring the remote hiking trails and experiencing the true beauty of the area. Physically prepare for hiking three miles a day. Quiet evenings and a peaceful setting creates the environment for relaxing.

A pair of binoculars or field glasses combined with a book profiling migratory birds will help you in identifying the many birds to be seen at Apache Mountain.

Animal life common to the Apache Mountain area includes bald eagles, tassle-eared squirrels (unique to this area), majestic elk, mule deer, mountain lion, bobcat, coyotes, black bear and countless noisy forest birds.
